- Place your name, address and phone numbers both inside and outside your baggage. This is the fastest way for the airlines to get your bags back to you when something goes wrong.
- At check-in, make sure the agent or skycap has tagged your baggage to your final destination.
- Protect yourself from what the airlines call 'bag swaps'. Use a colorful name tag, ribbon, patch or some other unique way to mark your bag. Or write your name with a metallic or permanent marker pen. That way your bag will stand out at the baggage claim.
- Use a hardside suitcase. Why? Think of your bag sitting on top of a baggage cart during a rainstorm while it waits to be loaded on the plane. Now think of your bag sitting at the bottom of the pile getting crushed by all the bags above it. Any questions? Many hardside bags have Travel Sentry® Approved locks built in.
Travel Sentry Family Travel Tips
- Let each child pack their own backback with the books and toys they want to have on the flight. Make sure each backpack has an ID tag with the parents mobile phone number on it; backpacks - and sometimes even kids - get lost.
- Save room in each backback for the kids pillow from home. It takes up less room than you would think, is lightweight and makes all the difference on a long flight or car ride. We also suggest tucking in a few surprises before takeoff; coloring books, color pencils and even a healthy snack treat or two.
